YOUTH OUTREACH

History
In 2009, TOPS was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It enabled the band to play concerts for and with school jazz ensembles around northeast Ohio. We also gave clinics and led sectional rehearsals giving students the benefit of our 1,200+ years of professional experience.

Another feature of the grant provided us with funds to invite selected high school groups to record several songs in a professional recording studio under the supervision of their director and our section leaders. The result was a compilation CD along with a DVD of the recording session experience.

New Venues
As we move forward in 2018, we are again preparing to visit schools with our Goals and Objectives being:

1. To bridge the generational gap between our senior musicians and Cleveland's youth through our musical presentations.

2. To reduce stereotypes.

3. To encourage mutual respect.

4. To foster an interest in participating in a musical ensemble.
